It’s beginning to look a lot like advent calendar shopping season, and the market is being flooded with fresh arrivals in that department from brands like Laneige, Anthropologie, Victoria’s Secret, Venchi, and Jack Daniel’s — clearly offering something for every taste under the sun.

A particularly buzzy advent calendar unveiling came courtesy of Free People this year, known for going all out with its holiday assortments of beauty minis: always packaged in darling boxes that, as far as I’m concerned, can easily moonlight as home decor.

24 compartments to open during the entire month of December, with a total product value of $420.

Hundreds of shoppers have already weighed in — Free People’s 2026 Curated Beauty Advent Calendar is its best one to date. Whereas previous iterations hovered around a total value of $300, this one has been appraised at $420. The kicker? It will cost you only $148 at freepeople.com and comes with free shipping on all US orders.

As a natural skeptic (and commerce writer), I like to go over brands’ advent calendar calculations with a fine-tooth comb. Sure, a three-figure value can impress anyone, but do the retail prices of the beauty goodies inside really amount to all that?

The first three weeks of goodies.

In context of Free People’s cal, I added up the typical prices of every product, be it a mini variant or a full-sized find: paying close attention to their volumes, in milliliters or ounces, so as to make one-to-one matches and get the math right. Then, I compared the sum to the aforementioned $148.

As it turns out, some of these miniaturized makeup and skin care buys aren’t sold anywhere else (case in point being the Luna Bronze Glow Tanning Moisturizer, which only exists in 50-milliliter form as part of the Free People advent calendar). The same goes for bite-sized versions of certain perfumes, usually marketed as bonus gifts attached to larger purchases or given out for free inside brick-and-mortar beauty stores.

My final number? $339.33, and that’s not inclusive of the products I couldn’t find exact matches for.

All in all, the on-site copy doesn’t lie — you really will be saving more than $200 on this gift-ready advent calendar that’s just as ideal for keeping all to yourself.

The curation here also feels intentional. No one beauty category gets overly represented, with customers being exposed to a wide range of labels: from behemoths like Vacation and Supergoop to sleeper hits such as Ere Perez and Rahua.

My most memorable “surprise and delight” moments during the unboxing process came from the “little luxury” selects that I could see myself using on a daily basis: think freckle pens for faking a freckled nose on the go and lanolin-based lip oils for long-lasting hydration sans stickiness.

Perhaps it was an intentional move, but the illustrations that adorned some of the calendar’s boxes didn’t always correspond with what I found inside. Either way, I didn’t mind the lighthearted misdirection.

Within the 2026 Curated Beauty Advent Calendar, Free People also shines a spotlight on its in-house beauty line, which is often overshadowed by the company’s bohemian-and-beloved apparel. The vegan, cruelty-free, made-stateside formulas, from overnight lip masks to hand creams and eau de parfums, are crucial to the advent calendar’s discovery element, and it’s safe to say I will be coming back to Free People for refills.

Shoppers share my belief that this Free People holiday gem is truly worth the money. “Just got my calendar and could not help myself, so I opened all the boxes already! I am so excited to try out these products, especially the mini FP hand cream. It’s my favorite, and I’m so glad I have one that fits into my purse now!” says one.

Indeed, one of the biggest advantages of receiving 24 new beauty products at once, whether dwarfed or in their full manifestations, is that you can try out items you might never have gravitated to (or even been aware of) otherwise. If you love something, you can easily acquire a larger size at Free People’s site or elsewhere, and if you’re not a fan, you won’t feel as bad about not emptying the tube.

At the end of the day, the Free People 2026 Curated Beauty Advent Calendar is a sensorial feast and a half — chock-full of good-to-skin ingredients like rare Amazonian oils, squalane, vitamin E, and hyaluronic acid, not to mention scents that transcend the ordinary and grant a healthy dose of escapism in the cold-weather months (that Ellis Brooklyn rollerball with its notes of bergamot, coconut milk, and sandalwood? Divine.)

Some customers suggest opening the whole thing ahead of Christmas and utilizing the calendar’s components as stocking stuffers. While this is a genius idea, I’ll be keeping my tiny treasures close, thank you very much.
